Often I get asked, “why do you love your career?” or “why did you choose to be in real estate?” While the answer is clear to me, I always enjoy the opportunity to reflect on my purpose, mission or calling in this role.
Usually, I answer, “because I get to help people provide for themselves and their family every day.” This, I believe, is the most important part of my job. Having a place to live is not merely a status symbol, but an essential part of life. The home provides us with shelter from the elements, safety, protection and comfort. It also takes commitment and responsibility to obtain - two very important life skills. In return, you feel a sense of peace, accomplishment, dignity and pride for the hard work that went into obtaining a home. Facilitating this acquisition is of paramount importance to me.
When I thought about it further, it occurred to me that there are other things about real estate that play an important role in people’s lives. Finding a place to live or investing in a home requires people to take control of their personal finances properly. Often, this step is overlooked and people (knowingly or unknowingly) overspend or mismanage their money. As a real estate professional, I’m able to guide individuals with personal financial management and saving for their first (and subsequent) purchases the right way. Managed correctly, the home becomes a true financial blessing.
Having a home is great for those around you as well. As a homeowner, you are able to provide a safe, comfortable place for your friends and family to get together. Relationships with others are an important part of human life - we are naturally social creatures. Having a home in which to foster these relationships is a great way to stay in touch with your loved ones, promote happiness and lead a longer, healthier life. Being a Realtor allows me to help people maintain these connections with those closest to them - a great joy for everyone involved.
As your investment portfolio grows, real estate assets provide a safe, stable way to build wealth. Paying down your mortgage increases your personal equity, while the value of your home goes up over time. Investment properties provide a stable source of cash flow, while also appreciating in value. For those comfortable with home renovations, buying and flipping homes is a great way to improve properties and be rewarded for it. Whatever your preferred approach is, I love being able to guide, provide valuable advice to those seeking financial opportunity in real estate.
At some point in time, each of our lives will come to an end. When that happens, what better way to be remembered than to leave a legacy for those closest to you? Doing so allows your memory to be fondly recalled, honoured lovingly and can last for many lifetimes over. Real estate assets are great physical entities to facilitate this - leaving behind a building in your name, donating to charities that require spaces, or even providing a financial head start for your family and friends. This is one of the most humbling aspects of my role - I am regularly inspired by the many individuals wishing to bless others with their wonderful generosity.
As you can see, being real estate is much more than just a job for me - it is a calling, a purpose that allows me to serve others throughout their lifetimes. It brings me great joy to do so - I am happy and eager to help you, too! Whether you are just starting or further along in your real estate journey, give me a call to walk by your side!
